Itinerary

After breakfast in Moshi, we drive to the Lemosho Gate for registration. The trek begins with a gentle hike through lush rainforest, where you’ll see monkeys, birds, and an incredible variety of plant life. The walk is gradual, giving you time to adapt to the altitude. After 3–4 hours, you reach Mti Mkubwa Camp, named for the large trees in the area. Here, you’ll settle into camp, enjoy a warm dinner, and relax while your guides prepare for the trek ahead.

After a hearty breakfast, the trek continues through the rainforest and opens up to moorland. As you ascend, the views of Mount Kilimanjaro become increasingly breathtaking. The trail leads toward the Shira Plateau, a vast alpine desert. By late afternoon, you’ll reach Shira 1 Camp, located on the plateau. Here, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch and time to relax before a satisfying dinner as the cold night air descends.

Following a nourishing breakfast, you continue the steady climb to Shira 2 Camp. The landscape becomes increasingly dramatic, with stunning views of the high-altitude desert and volcanic terrain. Today’s hike offers a great opportunity to marvel at the shifting landscape. After arriving at Shira 2 Camp, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch before relaxing and resting in the afternoon to help with acclimatization. A warm dinner is served as you prepare for tomorrow’s trek.

After breakfast, you’ll leave the Shira Plateau and continue climbing toward Barranco Camp. The trail takes you through alpine desert terrain with spectacular views of the mountain’s southern glaciers. The hike includes a short but steep climb to Barranco Wall, a unique, dramatic feature that provides a challenge but rewards you with incredible views. After 5–6 hours, you’ll arrive at Barranco Camp, where you’ll have a picnic lunch and enjoy a well-deserved dinner as you admire the surrounding cliffs.

Today’s trek involves scaling the iconic Barranco Wall, which offers excellent views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. After reaching the top, the trail becomes gentler as it leads through the Karanga Valley and ascends gradually to Karanga Camp. The entire day’s hike takes about 4–5 hours. At camp, enjoy a refreshing lunch, then spend the afternoon resting and acclimatizing. As always, a warm dinner will be served before a peaceful night under the stars.

After breakfast, the trail ascends steadily through alpine desert terrain toward Barafu Camp, the base camp for the final summit attempt. The hike is shorter today, taking 4–5 hours. Upon arrival at Barafu, you’ll have a light lunch and rest while preparing for the summit. You will need to hydrate well, get some rest, and ensure all your summit gear is ready. After an early dinner, rest up because you’ll begin your summit attempt around midnight.

Your summit day begins around midnight with tea and snacks before setting off under the stars. The steep, challenging climb takes you past Gilman’s Point and onto the rim of the crater. As you continue, the sunrise offers a spectacular view of the glaciers and snowfields as you push for Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After taking in the view and celebrating your accomplishment, descend back to Barafu Camp for a well-earned brunch. From here, continue the descent to Mweka Camp for a much-needed dinner and restful night’s sleep after your successful climb.
