A towering active stratovolcano with montane forests and alpine desert zones. Popular as a 3–4 day trek and acclimatization climb for Kilimanjaro, offering dramatic ridge hikes, ash cones, and incredible views of Kilimanjaro on clear days.
Seven shallow alkaline lakes fed by underground streams, each displaying distinct algae-driven water hues that draw thousands of flamingos and over 400 species of waterbirds. Guided canoe safaris are available on Little Momella Lake.
A 3km-wide extinct volcanic caldera enclosed by dense rainforest. The swampy floor is a sanctuary for herds of buffalo and warthogs, while the surrounding canopy provides prime habitat for black-and-white colobus monkeys.
Best for Trekking & Game Viewing (June to February) — clear skies offer optimal mountain views and dry conditions for trail hiking.
Best for Birding (November to April) — migratory birds arrive from Europe and Asia, populating the Momella Lakes.
